About
DoView Planning is based on the work of Paul Duignan, PhD. He is a psychologist who, through his organizational work, has used a strategy psychology approach to reinvent planning, outcomes, performance management, and evaluation. Strategy psychology provides a new lens on planning and outcomes work and emphasizes making it easier for people to plan, implement, and measure what they are doing. In particular, he has explored reducing people’s cognitive load in planning, outcomes, performance management, and evaluation by using a visual approach to planning. He is now also applying this approach to AI agents on the basis that their taking action in the world is analogous to what human organizations are doing when they take action.
He has been the director of a national-level Labour Parliamentary Research Unit in the New Zealand Parliament, a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., and has held research management and research roles at the University of Auckland and Massey University, New Zealand. He has undertaken consultancies on these planning, outcomes, performance management and evaluation with hundreds of organizations, including international organizations such as the IMF.
He developed the field of outcomes theory, which provides a concise conceptual framework for planning, outcomes, performance management, and evaluation. He also developed the award-winning DoView planning and outcomes app used in 55 countries with software engineer Richard Proctor and Jennifer Parker, with input from Matthew Duignan, PhD.
